Rodriguez, the subject of the Oscar-winning documentary Searching for Sugar Man, performs original, compelling songs from his two classic albums. Born in Detroit as Sixto Diaz Rodriguez, this Mexican-American folk musician and self-taught guitarist often sang of injustices in his home city. His two studio releases, Cold Fact (1969) and Coming from Reality (1971) went unnoticed in the U.S., but gained airplay overseas. Rodriguez was unaware that he had achieved superstardom in South Africa, where anti-apartheid activists and musicians were inspired by his counterculture lyrics.
