Hello! I'm perusing a major in technical theatre, but i have been having issues finding a good college for that. I just graduated HS, and some of the theatres ive been in in some colleges are lacking many things our HS Theatre had and that im well educated on. Does Anyone know awesome theatre colleges with later style equipment?

Thanks!

The Theater/Dance department at State University of New York at Fredonia updated their entire electrical/lighting system and equipment last year. Their two main performance spaces are a 400 seat proscenium theater and a black box theater. (The 1200 seat concert hall is used primarily by the School of Music.) Find more detailed info at http://www.fredonia.edu/department/theatredance/
I earned my BA at California State University at Sacramento. It was a small department with great professors and an experienced Staff. It's been over 20 years since graduation day, but I would check it out! There are many community and professional theatre groups in the area - including Music Circus in the summer. You can also get on the list for the local Union and earn extra money for events coming into the Arco Arena and the Memorial Auditorium. Not to mention work with the Symphony, Opera, and Ballet - when you're not knee deep in coursework.
Thank you all for your support! I really appreciate it!!
Ball State University in Muncie, Indiana. It may look small and slightly outdated, but the faculty are fantastic. The academic advisor/Scene designer for the Tech department was the chairman for ACTF. There are scholarships available for out of state students. We have three spaces, 400 seat Proscenium and two black boxes, and one is specifically for student run shows. Ball State has the largest theatre department in the state based on the size of the school. The tech department is moderately sized but strong, we put out good people, every one who went out for a summer job in theatre, got one. Good luck with your search. I suggest that you compare BA programs with BFA programs to see which appeals to you. BA degrees often require more classes outside of your major, providing a broader educational experience. BFA programs may offer more classes and opportunities within the theatre, but at the expense of fewer academic electives. There's no right or wrong, just what works best for you.

You might also consider how a graduate program will impact your college choice. While graduate programs may provide larger facilities or attract some professors, you may find that you need to compete with the graduate students for design opportunities. One of the reasons that I chose North Carolina School of the Arts was because they did not offer a graduate lighting program, so as an undergrad lighting designer I was able to work with grad students in scene design, costume design and technical direction.

Good luck.
Carnegie Mellon, CalArts, UCSD, NYU, Yale, University of Illinois Urbana-Champagne, Cincinnati Conservatory of Music. All of these schools have websites and I have been to ALL of them at some point in my life. I am currently a Graduate Student at Carnegie Mellon so any specific questions about CMU I can probably answer. What is your interest within technical theatre? (design, production, etc?)

does anyone know of a school that allows a major or emphasis on Props?

University of Illinois has a Masters program. So, does Ohio.
The University of Michigan, Ann Arbor has a great D&P(Design And Production) program. Plus they do ten main stage shows every year. Two operas, three musicals, one modern dance, and the rest are plays.
