Putting a Face on Theatre
We are producing Tennessee Williams' Summer and Smoke this winter. The set calls for a large angel fountain USC. Buying a real concrete or stone (or even resin) statue is not in the budget. Has anyone produced this show who might have one to rent (we're in the Boston area)? Or thoughts/designs on creating one from foam or other materials?

Thanks for the suggestion. Our budget is (as always) minuscule but their catalog looks interesting. I will keep it in mind if we decide to go that route.

Permalink Reply by Brian Wolfe on October 13, 2014 at 12:34pm My Boss actually made the original for Broadway. We have a photo of it with Tenessee Williams. It was sold long ago but we do have some other angel statues that could possibly work. Send me an email and I will send you photos and rental information.

Thanks for the response! I'd love to see the photos and find out what your rental rates are. We're a community theater so budget is always a concern but this piece is an essential part of the show, so I'm willing to entertain options.
Thanks,
Marianne
You can look through Christmas websites for Large lightup christmas angles. They aren't that expensive, you could get one 3 feet high and add a base. Paint it to look like stone. I did something like that for Dirty Rotten scoundrels. we bought a cheap store display and draped paint and glue covered fabric on it to created a lady Madonna statue.

Thanks, we have thought of that. I've been looking but so far they've been on the small side. I have some time - maybe there will be good sales close to Christmas!

See if you can "buy" one from a local garden center and return it for a refund at the end of the performance... if they won't lend it to you.

Permalink Reply by Jacob Coakley on Monday that's amazing! Great job!
Permalink Reply by Marianne Phinney yesterday She made a guest appearance in our winter production of Incorruptible (set in a medieval abbey). And she scares the *** out of people who don't expect her to be sitting in our house right storage area. Especially if they are Doctor Who fans (don't blink).
