Play we're working up calls for a character to eat a newspaper. Anybody have a source for such a thing? There are sources of edible paper and ink, but before getting involved in that we were wondering if there is any availability of theatrical edible newsprint. This can't be the first time it has come up. Thanks.

oooh! Good question! Lemme see if I can't stir up some answers for you.

I appreciate your time and attention

We've used the edible rice paper before (also called edible wafer paper) for pieces of paper that needed to be eaten. I do not know how thin you can get it since the stuff we used was a bit stiff and not like newsprint, but it's probably the best place to start. I looked through my archives, and surprisingly, no one I know has ever had to make an edible newspaper.

Thanks for your help. We will probably end up having to use rice paper attached to the back of the front page and folded out under cover. Fortunately, he only needs to eat the front page. Perhaps I can make my fortune developing a custom printed edible newspaper.
