We are doing The Little Mermaid, Jr. as our Spring Musical. MTI only licenses the piano score. We would like to use a small ensemble for our music. I'm wondering if anyone has arranged this score for other instruments and if we could rent or purchase it.

All of MTI's Junior shows come in a kit that includes 2 rehearsal CDs and 2 accompaniment CDs along with a copy of the piano score. There is no need to license any music at all unless you are doing the full length show. We are doing Little Mermaid this spring as well. I hope your kids are as excited as mine are!

Kids are super excited! We always use a live music ensemble with our productions and those students don't want to be left out of this show. We can score it ourselves but it is a huge undertaking so I'm hoping to find someone that has done it already.

We used the CD for accompaniment when we did Mermaid a few weeks ago. The show sounded fantastic.

I had a similar problem earlier this year when trying to do Into the Woods jr. I contacted MTI and they told me that the way the contracts were written I couldn't do the jr. musicals with live music. Double check your contract to make sure you don't get in trouble.

Thanks for the heads up, John. It is so annoying. Our student actors and vocalists are so excited but this creates a huge issue for our student musicians. I will definitely call my rep at MTI to see what I can work out.
