Time for another product to enter the testing chamber! Mega-Lite's Enlighten Control Wing is the latest subject for the group review process here on TheatreFace.com. It's a 0, 1, or 2 universe DMX lighting control surface designed to be used with Enlighten Stage Lighting Controller software.

Our intrepid tester this time around is once again Stephen Ellison, and all through the month of July he'll be testing out the desk, putting it through its paces and answering your questions about the unit. Want to know more about the unit? Go ahead and ask!

And here's some shots of the unit:

Hello Mister Ellison; i presume this device's function is to create and playback light cues? right? if you have a 60 channel light plot, what is the recipe to do that? if you have a 100 cues, how do you play them back? does this require a monitor to see what you're doing? how do you see pre-recorded intensity levels? how do you set the console to be a 0 universe dmx lighting control surface like jacob describes? and why would you want to do that? all the best, steve shelley

The pictured device is a Control Wing, by itself basically useless. The review is actually all about the software. Enlighten Stage Lighting controller version 2.70. I have not gotten very far into it yet so I will have to get back to you on how it functionally does all that you ask, including the mysterious "0" universe.

What does this connect to (PC requirements) and how does it interface to DMX? And I too am interested in the Zero Universe, maybe it is where the virtual perfect cue resides.

From what I can figure this is a programmable control surface to be used with the "Enlighten" DMX Lighting control software (free demo available http://www.enlightenpro.com/ ). If the software is purchased alone it comes with a DMX interface. You might buy the "0" universe version of the control wing. If you are buying the control wing and the software at the same time, then it might make more sense to buy the version that has 1 or 2 DMX interfaces included within the control wing.
So I had a conversation with the software engineer and found out what they mean by the zero universe. If you were to buy the software, you would get with it a USB to DMX box. Later you could add a wing panel, at this point they would not charge you for the universe of DMX. Otherwise you could buy the software and wing panel together and then choose the quantity of universe's you want.
I've updated the description above to make sure it's clearer about the fact the review is indeed about the software and the control wing. Hopefully that should clarify things.
