Lighting Design Portfolio

I am currently a Junior in an undergraduate theater program. My current plans are to continue my education and work towards an MFA in Lighting Design. I have a variety of experiences as a theater technician ranging from lighting and sound to carpentry. I recently updated my resume to make sure that formatting wise it was up to par for presentations to internships and graduate schools. My next step is to put together a presentable portfolio.I would appreciate any advice in creating this…See More

"Stage Combat tends to be an extremely difficult topic to find stuff on at a library. Sometimes you can find really good books at used bookstores. If you find something get it...that's my two sense."

Sound Effects

I have been building sound cues for the last couple productions that I have been involved with and was wondering what resources others used to find good effects. I would love to hear from you. Where do you find your sound effects?

Aaron,

At this time we use 6 HES 575 Studio Colors and 2 ETC Revolutions on a semi regular basis usually programmed on a Hog1000 console. We have been talking about adding a pair of Varilight units to our inventory but haven't decided which ones yet. Likely VL1000's or something similar. Thank you for your interest.

Hello Aaron,

Firstly, I would recommend visiting our website: http://www.indiana.edu/~thtr/index.shtml

Our professor of lighting design, Rob Shakespeare, does the recruiting for our area. He almost exclusively recruits from the URTA confrences held in Chicago and New York. You should contact him if you are interested in joining our lighting design program. I am the master electrician/lighting manager for the Theatre department and help to manage and enable the lighting elements for our graduate and undergraduate lighting students as well as manage the lighting infrastructure of the department. If you have additional questions for me after reviewing our website, I'd be happy to try to answer them.
