Little Women the Musical

"These look lovely! Could you possibly answer me this: having done the show, do you think it could easily be done with a piano combo rather than a full orchestra? Like piano, bass, drums, trumpet?"

"Well, here's my two cents: As a director that works largely with young actors, I have to be color blind (unless, as has been said, the script is racially specific). And I've never had a problem with it. If the actor can pull it off,…"

Orchestra Query for Little Women The Musical

Hey--This is for anyone who has done Little Women (Dickstein/Howland) or has the musical prowess I don't. If you are familiar with the scoring, can you tell me--do you think it could be done (without any large amount of score-doctoring) with a piano combo? (Piano, Bass, Drums, Trumpet/Flute).The problem is that my pit director doesn't want to put lots of time into the show this year and we don't have the money to pay a full pit orchestra like past years.Thanks!~A.B.See More

Monologues for Kids and Pre-teens [Age 5-14]

Hello all--Teaching at camp again and this year it's all about auditions. As you know, I always scramble to find materials for this varied age group (age 5-14). So, having scoured the internet and literature, I have finally got about 50 pieces for the students in all my groups. And I simply wanted to share in case anyone else is faced with this behemoth task. IF you are in need of monologues for young students, message me and I'll find a way to send you my documents. It's taken me a week to…See More

Davin replied to April B.'s discussion Projection Scenery without a Cyclorama?
"First off, what kind of projection equipment do you have? If you want your production to look cheap, go ahead and aim a projector at a bed sheet. This is basically what you are asking at this time. There is a lot more to projection…"

Projection Scenery without a Cyclorama?

Hello All--I'm once again asking the impossible--trying to do something without the proper instruments. My theatre doesn't have a cyclorama, nor do we have the budget to purchase one in the near future. But for an upcoming production we were thinking of playing with projection drops, using images. My question is, is there a cheaper alternative to a cyc that would possibly work?We do have a scrim, but I can't guarantee that lighting for the actors won't spill onto it and ruin the effect. Thanks…See More

"In case you all were wondering, we ended up doing a shadow play. A local church lent us a scrim they use to do a stations of the cross shadowplay, which we fastened to a rolling frame. This was set behind the nursery flats in the opening for the…"

"So the shadows worked really well. We did end up using the spandex, and two strip lights in the back to make sure we could light the full body. "
