Brian Miller replied to Brian Carter's discussion Cueing time
"I agree with Mr. Shelley - you need to know what you want to do at most moments of the piece before you should sit down to create the sequence of cues. By whatever means you use, you need to be able to visualize the looks you wish to create before…"

Brian Miller replied to Douglas Magnussen's discussion Making a phone ring-Modern Business, or older in the group Scenery and Props
"I agree with John. Tele-Q. Their website indicates that they are about $160 including AC adapter for purchase. If you need phones to ring individually and at the same time, you will need a couple of them. If the phones each ring at different times,…"

Brian Miller replied to Michelle Backel's discussion To Kill a Mockingbird tree in the group Scenery and Props
"I would build cross sections of the trunk and limbs from plywood, support and space apart the cross sections with 1x4 or if the trunk is huge, 2x4, then wrap the whole assemby in chicken wire. At that point, you can cover the chicken wire with…"

Side by Side by Sondheim

"This production was done at a high-end carpet gallery in a fancy neighborhood in Denver. Not at all a theater! Lighting was a huge challenge! It was the first full production done by this new company."

Brian Miller replied to Brian Carter's discussion Consoles in the group Lighting
"I am not as sophisticated as some on this list, but I still prefer the ETC Express as my board of choice. I don't use intelligent fixtures very often, as a lighting designer for theater more than anything else. I can see how the more advanced…"

Brian Miller replied to Cynthia Evans's discussion Double-Roll Reveal in the group Scenery and Props
"It took me a minute to fully understand what you want to do, but now I think I understand. Your statement about wanting to lower the top of of "Landscape" while pulling up the top of Les Demoiselles" got me confused. As you rotate the…"

Profile Information

What's the last show you worked on?
Working on my third this month, after 21 last year. Lighting for a fun production of "True West" for OpenStage in Fort Collins, CO, am finishing up the set design for a production of Murray Shisgal's "L.U.V." for the Bas Bleu Theater, also in Fort Collins, and designed and assembled a portable lighting rig for a small puppet theater production using inexpensive Chinese knock-off LED fixtures. They aren't the most durable instruments you will find out there, but the output is fabulous, and they work well!
