Dance auditions for a non-dancing role?

I just came back from an audition for How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, and have come to the conclusion that I will never get cast in a musical again. I had some dance training many, many years ago, but was never good at it, and I'm completely retarded about learning combinations. About seven years ago I wrenched my ankle in a dance audition so badly that I felt it for a year afterwards. So, I've pretty much stopped auditioning for dance-heavy shows, but the prospect of…See More

THE DROUGHT IS OVER!

I've been cast in a concert production of Stephen Sondheim's "Follies," going up in San Jose March 2011. Deo gratias.

First audition in weeks....

Let's see, I used approximately 2 gallons gasoline @ $3.00/gallon, $8.30 for a BART ticket and three hours of time for a five-minute audition in San Francisco. Gotta be crazy to do this. Sigh.

Need inspiration...

I'm currently rehearsing for a workshop production of an opera for a company I've worked with several times in the past. It's an original work. I've worked with the composer and LOVED the stuff I did before, but for some reason I feel as if I'm just going through the motions on this one. I should be practicing the music. Damn. I probably need a kick in the pants.

On my way to movie stardom....

I auditioned for a video production company on Tuesday night, and got the call Friday night to play in a short film. They said they needed casual dress for afternoon/evening. So... I stuffed a duffel with several changes of clothes and hair things (so it could be up, down, back or sideways) and didn't put on any makeup, just brought it in my "Rosie the Riveter" lunch box.

The scene I'm in was shot in the director's living room. He told me that I looked just right as I was! So, I'll… Continue

An idea- take 8 parts of scenes from play-films of GREAT woman who gave different performances-you speak about them-who-how-in your natural way- then step into her part-do a short scene from the play or film- keep a few hats- shawls-costume props- a chair or two- a paravan to go behind and appear from other side in costume-you remove each character-and step into the role-this could be exciting-and you play each character- there are so many-a quiet scene- drama- mad scene-it could be wonderful! English and American powerful actors ! There ....now to work !......no car driving !Do some home work......

I haven't a clue how to navigate this yet either. Wow, it was 1979 the last time I was in San Jose. So, I think we should schedule a call. I always start off with the three C's: Confidence, Commitment, and Creativity. The wonderful thing about this craft is you are always learning. It sounds like you like somthing you can actually hold on to. Now, for a moment, imagine holding that which you most desire, even if it seems absract. Don't worry about it being possible or impossible to do so, just believe. If you don't believe it, no one else will. Can you capture a Rainbow? Sure. You just did. In your mind. That is where it must begin. I am always reminding my students that I have little interest in the right anwers, I need Real Answers. If you have been able to follow me so far, I can see the journey has already begun. Take time for the meta cognative moment and think about what you are thinking about. Then drop an email to bestactorsworkshop@msn.com with any questions, or just to say your brain is full and we can then explore an opportunity in between our schedules to arrange a phone introduction, and go from there.
