One more dress rehearsal then opening night. The cast is ready they just need to let go of their stress and worry. If they do that they can then concentrate on their characters and become the character they are playing. it has been exciting for me. To be able to direct again. To be able to work with such a talented cast, this has been dream come true to be able to direct again.

What do I mean by that?
Late last summer, after over a decade of wandering about as a lifeless husk due to having foolishly chosen to believe the words of my college professors that I would never be an actor (because, evidently, I didn't
breathe correctly)... I decided to make like Benny Andersson and "take a chance, take a chance, take a cha-cha-chance" by auditioning for membership in a local theatre ensemble.
I've been acting more or less nonstop ever since. And make no mistake,…

Hey Guys- after more than 20 years, I am going to go back to home to NYC for a while to give it another try as an actress! I am older and wiser- so I hope I will do better than I did before. I am an alum of Boston U's theater dept and I have done lots of theater and commercials in Louisville- so here I go! If anyone has any advice or suggestions of people to contact, casting directors and the like, I would greatly appreciate the networking! Thanks and wish me luck. Carol

Rehearsing a show for 3 MONTHS to run the show for 4 DAYS... hm...
I'm not complaining... it's just SOOO long to be doing the same show and not be in performance yet. We started rehearsal for "The Producers" on March 2nd, with a week off for spring break toward the end of March, then we were supposed to open the show April 22nd (technically today). Seems pretty usual right? Well, then we had the flood, with almost no rehearsal for 3 weeks plus no shop work to build the set. So, the show was…

The Whole Backstage Theatre Announces the
2009 TAKE THE STAGE Talent Competition Audition Submission Extension.
Guntersville, Alabama, April 9, 2009 – Maybe you’ve been “freaking out”, wondering how you are going to get that audition DVD to the Whole Backstage in time for the Take the Stage Talent Competition auditions. Do you have an amazing talent, but no way of recording it? Maybe you almost forgot about the event, and will not have time to get something together?
If that is the case, you…

Again we got a lot done. The cast is starting to feel how the flow of the show goes. Didn't have the seniors here. They are at senior wilderness. I don't think we have had the whole cast all together yet. Even today we had trouble with some of the orphans being across the street at a fast foot place then practicing. Then the students who are there at rehearsal really working hard are the ones that have to carry the show. I know it's just a musical, but either drama, comedy or musical you still…

"Art is only a means to life, to the life more abundent. It is not in itself the life more abundent. It merely points the way, something which is overlooked not only by the public, but very often by the artist himself. In becoming an end it defeats itself." Henry Miller (American Novelist)

"The purpose of art is to create an emotional response in the person that is exposed to that art. And there are three categories of art; bad art, good art and great art. Bad art will elicit no emotional response in the person that is exposed to it, i.e.; a song you hear in an elevator and it does nothing to you, a picture on a wall that gives you the same emotional response as if the wall had been blank, a movie that chews up time. Good art will make you feel an emotion that you have felt… Continue

Gina or Ms. Miller is what I call her, was such a big help today. Except for one song and some blocking for another song, we two have act 1 of Annie completely done. It was a lot of fun today.

Susan Boyle: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vFP7fjcX16w What a voice! Britain certainly
does have talent!
I was going to bitch and moan about going 0 for god-knows-how-many auditions this spring, but after watching that video, I think I can pick myself up and start all over again.

CAN-ACT will be on the road again. After spending a year at the Indian Creek location, we have to move as the city will begin demolition this fall. We don't want to spend another summer moving. So we are planning on moving all our stuff to storage in May. We hope that someone will give us a lead on a location for performances.
