Jacob Coakley Behind the Scenes and On the Stage

Happy Halloween (weekend)! This is my first Halloween in our new house, and my wife and I are buying candy and preparing for the neighborhood kids that will come flocking on Sunday evening. This is the first time I've ever been in a neighborhood where door-to-door trick or treating was possible (always lived in apartments before) so I'm really excited! To commemorate, we're starting off our videos this week with a Halloween bent.

First off, a clip from a classic movie, … Continue

Meghan O. Koesters The Prometheus Project: Suzuki

I apologize for the lateness of this update, I have been ill the last couple of weeks. Due to this, I was forced to miss a couple of rehearsals, much to my dismay. This past week we have been rehearsing as an ensemble, which has been an interesting experience. The ensemble has been working separately from those of us playing Prometheus, so it was cool to see the other portions of the show. For instance, there is a part that is done with long, metal rods with hammers at the end that is really… Continue

Graduate Statements of Purpose

First up, why do i write these posts? I mean, i'm not getting paid to write this blog. It's not something i'm required to do by the program for which i teach, or by the theatre for whom i work.

I remember all too well how lost in the woods i felt when i graduated with my bachelors and was considering graduate study. At that time, literally NONE of the resources i have mentioned in prior… Continue

Jacob Coakley More videos

Alright! It’s time for videos!

First up I have to point you over to Actors Theatre of Louisville’s YouTube channel. They’re currently running The Mystery of Irma Vep, with 2 actors playing all the roles. They’ve pulled a page out of the Old Spice handbook (which apparently is all the rage, what with Sesame Street doing it, too) and… Continue

Meghan O. Koesters The Prometheus Project: Talking It Out

Tonight's rehearsal focused on more of the script then the previous one had. The most notable part of the rehearsal was spent on dividing up the lines. In this particular play, Prometheus is being split into 6 different characters or groups, with each getting their own lines and movement. We discussed where we would be in relation to the space and what part of us would be tied up. I'm going to be tied to the center Prometheus' left leg though it will most likely be my right leg that gets tied.… Continue

Jacob Coakley Weekend Viewing

So here's a few videos for the weekend, hope you enjoy them like I did!

For some reason, whenever I think of theatre videos I think of musicals. I think it's the whole "music video" thing. Anyways, here's one of my longest musical crushes of ALL TIME. Bernadette Peters singing Send in the Clowns from A Little Night Music. The current Broadway revival with Bernadette and Elaine Stritch closes in January, that's a production I'm going to be… Continue

Meghan O. Koesters The Prometheus Project: Acorns and Potatoes

Tonight was the first rehearsal of the Prometheus Project. I have learned that this is to be a movement-based show (primarily Butoh and Laban movement) and I am very excited to see how it turns out. I am to play the role of Prometheus: Religious Oppression, and I hope to do a respectable job for the show. I have been researching religious oppression all week in preparation for this first rehearsal.

The rehearsal took place on the 4th floor of one of the oldest buildings in…

Meghan O. Koesters A Quick Introduction

Hello!

I would imagine that the best thing to do for my first blog entry would be to introduce myself, but I have an overactive imagination so we'll see how that goes. I'm a 22 year old seeking her Bachelor's Degree in Arts in Communication Specializing in Theatre: Acting/Directing. A few fun facts about me is that I work as a team leader for kids during the week and then scare kids on the weekends (I'm a Screamster at Cedar Point for Halloweekends). I play over 20…

Jacob Coakley Weekend Viewing

I've been looking around and found some fun videos for the weekend!

First up, (if Vimeo works) is an embed of a video that has Uncle Vanyo (and a strike!) sped up to happen in less than 3 minutes. Looked like a good production, too. Vimeo won't let me embed it here (but it will on the main page. So you probably saw it there. If not, check it out here.

I got WAAAAAY into '50s music and musicals this week -- or at least that style. So… Continue
