Putting a Face on Theatre

Alright, I know some of you may be sick of my flogging for bloggers, so here's some fun theatre videos for your weekend enjoyment!

First up, Avenue Clue. Over on Playbill.com the cast of Avenue Q have cooked up a murder mystery sketch comedy called Avenue Clue. Here's Part 1. You can check out Part 2 on the Playbill.com site.

I haven't been writing much about it here because so many other sources are doing a good job of tracking all the injuries and mishaps Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark, but there have been so many that Conan O'Brian has started making fun of it on his late-night talk show. Here's one of his clips:

Earlier this week Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS held their 22d annual Gypsy of the Year contest. Gypsy of the Year is the culmination of six weeks of intensive fundraising where the theater community’s most talented “gypsies,” chorus members from Broadway, Off-Broadway and national touring shows, join in a competition/variety show. BC/EFA raised more than $3.7M to fight AIDS this year. You can read more about the fundraiser on Stage-Directions.com here, see some video on BroadwayWorld.com here, and check out some footage Sean Hayes (of Will and Grace, currently on Broadway in Promises, Promises) here. Below are two clips from the show.

The first is from the cast of Mary Poppins:

And the last is the cast of The Lion King, performing in tribute in Shannon Tavarez, The Lion King cast member who lost her life earlier this year to Leukemia.

Got more cool videos we should be watching? Let me know in the comments!
