Patrick, honestly... this is a great relief to me.

I mean: I've never heard it so directly from an actor before: you knew what you were getting into, and you had a chance to determine for yourself whether the nudity made sense, and you actively chose to do it to help tell the story.

I genuinely feel, well... unburdened. Thank you!

That's exactly right, Gwydion. How does it advance the story? I've been nude on stage once (and I mean completely nude) and had no problem with it whatsoever. I was playing Coriolanus and my first appearance in the play was a scene set in my bedroom in bed with my wife (there was nothing sexual going on, just a man and wife in bed) and I got out of the covers entirely naked. It was meant to show this man who is larger than life in his most vulnerable state right off the top. To humanize him…

It was meant to show this man who is larger than life in his most vulnerable state right off the top. To humanize him before the action of the play has a chance to deify him. As long as the nudity is honestly meant to illuminate story or character it's not gratuitous. And as long as the actors know during the audition process that nudity will be required so they can remove themselves from consideration if they're not comfortable with it, I really don't think you need to worry about the actors. They know what they're getting into.
