(Reno, NV) Brüka Theatre’s Hot and Throbbing Greek month is a celebration of the art and culture that was defined in the Golden age of Greece and continues to inform and enlighten the contemporary stage and our society. Our main stage show at Brüka Theatre during the month of July 2011 showcases two short plays. Oedipus The King written by Sophocles and Adapted and Directed by Jim Martin. Oedipus the King is a monument to Sophocles’ dramatic genius, and to the freedom of Athenian thought. It develops a shocking, profoundly immoral idea about a human being's ultimate relationship to the universe. Sandra Neace directs The Medea Project an original work created by Neace and the women of Brüka Theatre. Based on the Greek Tragedy Medea. The Medea Project explores infanticide and our responsibilities as Mothers, women and citizens in modern society.

The last play of the 2010/2011 Brüka Theatre season, Oedipus The King and The Medea Project opens with a post show champagne reception catered by The Wild River Grille and Back of The House on Friday, July 8, 2011. The show runs July 8 through July 29, 2011, Wednesday through Saturday with evening shows at 8:00 PM. There is a Sunday matinee on July 17 at 2 PM followed by a talkback with the company. The doors open a half an hour before curtain time.

BRUKA ORIGINAL PLAY READING SERIES presents the fourth and last play-reading of the season: CLYTMEMNESTRA, AN ADAPTATION OF THREE GREEK PLAYS BY JAMES L. MARTIN and DIRECTED BY MARY BENNETT. Martin’s adaptation is based on The Greeks by John Barton and Kenneth Cavander. Playing: JULY 24, 2011 2 PM $5
