Thanks, Dan. I had a similar thought - and then we play what we discover back in to the text. LOVE IT! I'm all about the ensemble! The TOO MANY masks is a new concept - why? (Although I can venture a guess or two...)

Now that our season is announced, I can begin gathering the information and the allies I need. I will be directing COMEDY OF ERRORS in full commedia style. I want to play with lazzi, the improv, the physicality, the vocality, the masks - and then unmask to allow for some of the more emotional discoveries and aspects of the story. I'm thinking of the old "this is an acting company producing the play" frame to be able to de-mask when needed. The show goes up in April 2010 (3 projects from now) but I'm ready to start planting seeds of ideas - a head start, if you will.

I'll be playing with the first folio text this summer to determine the emotional shifts and the potential for the styling. I would currently be interested in resource ideas to begin the research into style...I teach this but this would be my first production.

Thanks in advance for anything you can provide, good peoples!

What kind of work will you be doing?
Julie Rae Mollenkamp Comment by Julie Rae Mollenkamp on April 17, 2009 at 9:06am
Greeting all!
While it's not announced yet, I know I will be directing a selection employing Commedia techniques in our season next year. I'm excited to learn from good people and have allies in the process. It will be my first foray...be gentle with me!
