Ernestine Shuswap Gets Her Trout by Tomson Highway (carpenter, scenic painter).
What's your current project?
We're gearing up for 'Grease' at UI. Also scripts for Ancient History and Verne's Diner (there's a reading for Verne's Diner on April 28 at 7:30 PM at the Shoup Arena Theatre). You can see some of my scripts at http://thelooponline.ning.com/profiles/blog/list?user=1pxq84ir966p4 and read about my work at http://mattieroquelrydalch.blogspot.com/
What theatres or schools have you attended?
I did theatre at BYU-Idaho and BYU and I'm working on my MFA at the University of Idaho in Moscow. I shot production photos and directed for the New Play Project in Provo, Utah, and this June was my second time in the play lab at the Last Frontier Theatre Conference.
What's your job in theatre now?
I'm a TA in the scene shop at the University of Idaho.
What do you aspire to?
Being an award-winning playwright with a work in the canon after I die, and directing other people's work while I'm alive.
What's your best advice to someone wanting to be in the theatre?
If you want something, go get it, don't wait for it to fall into your lap. Don't listen to people who tell you to quit, and study subjects outside of the theatre.

Never Run Into a Batten With Your Head!

The other day the students were hanging lights for Dracula and I was being kind of an idiot and didn't see that a batten was down. I ran head on into it and got a concussion. And it was embarrassing. I just thought it was a good idea to just put a reminder out there for people to watch for battens that have been flown in but not out yet. Next time I think I'll be a little more careful!
